GANA Gold Level Breeder · Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, BC
An ethical and responsible in-home breeder, raising our dogs and puppies as naturally and holistically as nature intended.
Our Story
(named after The Osbournes) · Pictured - Jack, our old Labradoodle & Dad on Cox Bay, Tofino in 2019 a week after his cancer diagnosis.
We are an ethical and responsible in-home breeder of the GANA Goldendoodle, Bernedoodle, Aussie Mountain Doodle and occasionally Aussiedoodles, living in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC.
We live on a 5 acre property in a rural location, so our dogs have lots of room in our fully fenced park like yard to safely run and play.
We produce standard, medium, miniature and petite goldendoodle puppies, as well we are the only Micro, Mini and Standard Bernedoodle, Australian Bernedoodle / Aussie Mountain Doodle & Aussiedoodle Breeder in BC who FULLY health test ALL our breeding dogs, that means OFA hips, elbows, patellas, cardiac, eyes; Pennhip and Genetic disease panel.
We are intentionally breeding Bernedoodle, Aussie BerneDoodles / Aussie Mountain Doodles and Golden doodle puppies for Companionship and Therapy Work, for their outstanding temperament and trainability.
We are Gold Level Breeder Members of the Goldendoodle Association of North America, aka GANA, the first and only gold level breeder on Vancouver Island, the 2nd to become certified in BC in 2021 and the 3rd in all of Canada, leading the way in responsible breeding practices and husbandry.
Our Mission
Our mission statement and breeding goal is to breed for temperament and health, improving the predictability of each generation created, for families and individuals as companion dogs or for therapeutic roles.
We raise our dogs and puppies as naturally and holistically as nature intended — as toxin free as possible, on a species appropriate raw diet and minimally vaccinated / medicated.
Careful selection for breed type and extensive knowledge of genetic traits and conformational structure, backed by experience and research into the effects of medications and chemicals in our environment.
Our dogs are treasured pets and family members. They live with us, or in loving forever guardian homes, most sleep in our bedroom, often on the bed with us.
Health Testing
Whilst Doodles tend to be healthier than their parent breeds with lower COI's and Hybrid vigor, they can still be prone to conditions such as hip dysplasia and eye problems, amongst others. DNA testing can reduce the risk of many preventable genetic diseases, but only in depth and specific Xrays assessed by an orthopedic specialist can provide the type of clearances needed by ethical and responsible breeders.
Only fully health tested parent dogs are entered into our breeding program. Their health certifications consist of DNA tests, X-rays - Pennhip & OFA, heart OFA and eye CERF exams, as well as routine physical wellness checks. As an ethical and responsible breeder we offer a 2yr health guarantee.
All puppies are adopted on a spay/neuter pet home only contract, unless prior discussion regarding breeding rights are obtained.

Tests we complete
Health testing documentation is available for all of our breeding dogs, please ask for certifications. Not all testing is on the public OFA website, preliminary tests are not published on OFA, despite being completed. We do not publish the certificates online to ensure they can't be copied and fraudulently used by unscrupulous individuals.
Our Legacy
Our labradoodles brought so much unconditional love, joy and healing to our lives, they truly are our inspiration and guardian angels. Their legacy lives on in our younger dogs and we hope their puppies will bring as much love and enrichment to other families lives, as they do ours.
Scallywag Doodles was created out of a legacy to our two 90lb Labradoodles, Jack and Oscar, who came into our lives in 2008.
Jack in particular was plagued with allergies all of his life, suffered chronic arthritis from hip and elbow dysplasia and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in February 2021 after a long battle with 2 types of cancer, he was just 2 months shy of his 13th birthday and survived 2 yrs longer than Specialists anticipated. Oscar, Jacks littermate brother passed away very suddenly in March 2019, just before his 11th birthday and will forever leave a huge hole in our hearts.
In fact both of our dogs had been diagnosed with cancers in later life and this led to our decision to switch to a more holistic way of raising our younger dogs, whilst palliatively caring for Jack. It was during our search for a playmate for Jack that we were inspired to start breeding.
We found that even 12 years on from when we first researched doodles in 2006, very few breeders did any sort of health testing, it wasn't specific to Doodles, even purebred breeders provided little in the way of health testing. We made it our mission to elevate the breeding of Doodles, to breed with a purpose and to improve the consistency of the breed with each pairing we do.
